Dear editor, Hundreds of pro-choice activists mobilized on April 29 to confront Operation Rescue at the Metropolitan Family Planning Clinic in Prince George's County, Md., just outside of Washington, D.C. Car caravans from Washington, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia converged on the clinic.
Although the pro-choice forces were not able to get to the clinic in time to keep Operation Rescue from blocking the doors, they immediately linked arms to protect any women coming to the clinic from harassment. Slowly, the police began to arrest the "rescuers," and the clinic was reopened.
Spirits were boosted by the news that clinics in Boston and Los Angeles had been reopened. "Boston's open, L.A. too, come on Maryland, how about you," was the chant.
Richard Hill, Baltimore, Md.
